Sunny's money

I've been waiting for Sarah to post a blog about Sunny's latest happenings...this story is funny and I simply have to write it... Sarah is quite busy at a skate board shop she operates in Pahoa on the big island where she sells t-shirts, boards and wheels(?) as well as a few items Sunny makes at home...Sarah bought her a loom and she makes little hats and stuff for kids and sells them in her own corner of the store...
Sunny sold $10 of her goods to a woman who gave her a $20 bill...having no changed she asked Sarah if she did...and she did have a $10 bill that Sunny gave the woman back as change...
then Sarah handed Sunny a $20 bill and asked her to go next door and get change...Sunny came back and went to her little corner and said nothing...Sarah asked her to give her back her change but Sunny thought the money was all hers...after a long explanation Sunny had no clue she owed her Mom anything...this went on and on until Sarah took $10 from Sunny's change and Sunny had a fit accusing Mom of stealing her money...to this day she has no clue about making change even though she has the brains of a teenager her financial ability is very much like a seven year old that she is...

Once upon a time...Who's story is it anyway?

Leesa and her kids have been staying with us...
as her daughter Thea (5 years old) was on her way to bed a few nights ago I was asked to tell her a bedtime story...I thought it was a good idea to put her down so I could catch the last few innings of the Dodger game...Leesa had gone to visit one of her sisters...
We laid on the bed and I started to tell her a story...(my words are in lower case and hers are in UPPER CASE)
once upon a time...WHERE?
in a happy land, and there lived a lovely little princess in a...WHAT'S HER NAME?
you tell me...HER NAME WAS YATAH
o.k. Yatah lived in a castle with the King and the Queen...OK AND THEN WHAT?
she was riding a big horse...WHAT COLOR?
white!...it was white!...OK AND THEN WHAT?
they were riding on a beautiful river bank through a forest with red, yellow and white flowers all around...NO!!!JUST YELLOW ONES...
o.k o.k. can I keep going? YES
they were riding along and found a nice spot under a big tree on the side of the river and stopped to have a picnic...YOU NEVER SAID BEFORE THEY WERE GOING ON A PICNIC!!
o.k. sorry
the princess had a tasty picnic and she even had carrots and sugar for her horse...when they were done she rode back to the castle and lived happily ever after...NO THEY DIDN'T!!!!
huh, why not?...BECAUSE NOTHING BAD HAPPENED TO HER AND FAIRY TALES ALWAYS HAVE BAD GUYS...
oh!!!...SO TELL ME ANOTHER STORY, THIS TIME WITH BAD GUYS
o.k.
(may be continued)

Just thoughts...do they mean anything?

I'd planned to play at Goose Creek this afternoon but here in Riverside the temperature is 107 with a hot wind...I had time to spare and decided to play around with Julie's 'random thoughts'...and a few old age things...
  • I love driving
  • I always have my car washed at the local place
  • I love to read
  • I hate yard work
  • I love long walks on the beach..NAH
  • I love getting up early, reading sports and comics page, and having a few cups of coffee
  • I like to make my lunch every day so I can read during lunch...Chicken salad is my favorite...left over Chinese food is great too
  • At my age I'm not expected to run...anywhere, and I don't have to lift heavy stuff...
  • I'm happy there's nothing left to learn the 'hard way'
  • I'm lucky that the clothes I now buy won't wear out
  • I feel OK eating 'Early Bird' dinners sometimes
  • I'm not challenged by speed limits anymore
  • I don't talk on my cell phone when I have to use a public restroom...
  • I feel my secrets are safe now because my friends can't remember them
  • Did I say I love to play golf? Read books?
  • I wish I had an Apple computer like Julie's but we run AutoCAD here at the office and it just won't work on Apples...

A random thought

A while back a young, talkative (and dumb) clerk at a fast food place asked me how it felt to be old...I was somewhat shocked and she was embarrassed too after she saw my reaction...I told her it was an interesting question and I'd get back to her...I ain't ever going back to her!

But I did think about it a lot and came to the conclusion that it wasn't bad to be old...for the first time in my life I might be the person I always wanted to be... not my body, wrinkles (I see them as laughlines), pot belly and sagging butt...when I look in the mirror (not that often) I see my Dad and once I saw my Mom (scared the hell out of me) but I didn't look too long and I don't think about it much...

I'd never trade my wife and family and good friends for more hair, or a flatter belly...I can't see my sagging butt so it doesn't matter...

I sneak an extra cookie when I can, drop my clothes on the floor once in a while, buy an expensive book, or new driver or putter...I feel entitled to treat myself, to be messy or extravagent...

I've been to too many funerals and seen too many friends leave this world too soon...before they understood the freedom that comes with aging...
I will dance and sing to tunes of the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's and more...
I can, but would never walk on the beach in front of pitiful glances from youngsters...I will play golf, a lifetime sport...As I get older it's easier to be positive and I don't care what other people think, and I can be wrong sometimes and it doesn't matter...

To answer the question, I like being old and free and I will eat dessert any time I want to...I'm gonna have some tonight...a office friend just handed me a chilled Mocha from Starbucks so I gotta go...

Where did the word 'blog' originate?

I make it a habit to read "Ask Marilyn' in the Sunday Parade section of the L.A. Times...as a relatively new blogger I couldn't pass up the opportunity to post her response... I didn't know what 'blog' meant...

"The word 'blog' is short for "Web log", a site one establishes for the purpose of putting one's thoughts on line for the edification or amusement of visitors, who may leave pieces of their own minds before departing."
